The key to the redox review packet as well as the key to the extra redox balancing practice sheet have been posted in the Unit 11 Keys folder.  Study session tomorrow at 7 am in the classroom.

Don't forget your WebAssign and good luck studying tonight!

Hi, Honors Chem, I completely forgot to tell you that MONDAY IS A CHEM DAY!  Yes, you get to go to a Chem Day...finally.  There will be a sign on the classroom door to remind you, but during our regularly scheduled class period, GO TO THE LYCEUM.  Be sure to complete the handout that goes with the video and hand it in to the substitute teacher (that's my attendance, so if you don't hand one in you will be marked absent).

Please spread the word and enjoy Chem Day on Monday!

:) Ms. F

Blog for May 15, 2014

What we did in class today:

HOPE ALL AP TESTS THAT WERE TAKEN THIS WEEK WENT WELL FOR EVERYONE!!!!! ;)

  • We checked in homework which was page 5 of the packet we are working on now
  • We got a Fruit Battery Lab Handout
  • We did a few problems from each page in the packet (6,7,8)
  • For page 9 of the packet only read the top section then cross off the rest of the page because we do not need to know that and page 10 for the test.
  • We highlighted/color coded the top of page 9, so see someone else's packet if you were absent today.
Announcements made by Mrs. Friedman today:
1.) The test is wednesday of next week
2.) There will be a review packet, review video and a review session as always
3.) Tomorrow we are going to do a lab, the only thing we need to turn in for the lab is just a finished lab packed and nothing else is required.
4.) For tomorrow's lab, citrus fruits are the best to use.
5.) Answers to the chem packet we are doing in class is still not up yet, so don't worry Mrs. Friedmann is working on it still.
6.) TRY TO DO A FEW REDOX PROBLEMS EVERY NIGHT, BECAUSE PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT AND MRS. F IS EXPECTING A 100% ON THAT SECTION OF THE TEST!!!!!

RED Cat
AN OX

Homework:
1.) Do page 6,7 of the packet (THE FIRST ONE ON PAGE 8, WE ALSO DID TOO)
2.) Page 8 IS EXTRA CREDIT. (EXTRA CREDIT EXTRA CREDIT)
3.) Remember to WEBASSIGN if you haven't done so already. And the redox quiz on their remember is a way to bump up your grade but it is optional.
4.) Bring in a Citrus Fruit for the lab tmrw.

Remember practice practice practice because you don't want to be like this person. LOL

HANG IN THERE EVERYBODY, ONLY A FEW MORE WEEKS TILL SUMMER!!! JUST A FEW MORE WEEKS ;)

BTW THE NEXT BLOGGER WILL BE ALLIE BOLAND!

Blog 5/14/14

Blog Post 5/14/14

Andrew Sochowski

We first checked in the homework from yesterday, which was pages 3 and 4 in our packets. The answers are most likely up on Moodle.

Then, Mrs. Friedmann had us balance a challenging redox equation at the request of certain students. The equation is as follows:
K2Cr2O7 + HCl + H2S ----> KCl + CrCl3 + S + H2O

As I type this, Mrs. Friedmann is making a video (which will probably be up on Moodle) that explains how to balance the above reaction. The video continues on to page 5 of the packet and goes over the text of question 7.

Homework: Page 5 of the packet. Webassigns are moved to Thursday night.

The next blogger will be decided by me tomorrow, based on whoever hasn't done it this quarter.

Stay classy, Bobby.

Class Blog - Friday, May 9, 2014

At the beginning of class, Mrs. Friedmann checked in the 8 redox reactions we balanced last night. A few people had trouble had with problems 3 and 4 of the base part, so Mrs. Friedmann made a video during class today going over how to do these two problems. The video will be posted on Moodle for all of the people who were absent.

Homework: We were given a partner take home quiz that will be due Monday. They WILL be graded for correct answers.

Class Blog 5/7/14

ONLY 17 DAYS OF SCHOOL LEFT!!!

We checked in the homework (3 worksheet pages)
Mrs. Friedmann didn't finish grading the tests yet.

Today in class...
  • Checked in homework
  • We learned how to balance redox- equations
  • The lesson is recorded and going to be posted by 9 tonight on Moodle.

Balancing Redox Equations in Acid
  • Redox can happen in either acid or base
  • Acids have H+ and bases have OH-
In acids Steps:

      1.  Split equation into 2 half-reactions
      2.  Balance each half reaction:
    • Balance all atoms Other than H & O
    • Balance oxygen using water
    • balance hydrogen using H+
    • Balance charges using electrons
      3.  Multiply each half reaction by an integer so electrons for both half reactions are the same
      4. Cancel and Combine.

***There are 2 examples in the video(in the hw), but its too hard to type it out!!!***

Homework:
1) Forming Ionic compounds worksheet
2) Balancing Redox equations worksheet #1-8
