Class Blog 9/9/13

Notes:

1. Intensive Properties:
Do not depend on how much you have. (Ex: density, solubility)
Depends on what the substance is.

2. Extensive Properties:
Depend on how much you have, not on what the substance is. (Ex: mass, volume)

Density (intensive) = Mass (extensive)/ Volume (extensive)
Density is a physical property. It can be used to identify what a substance is.

We will not measure density directly. We will measure two things:

1. Mass:
Find using a balance.

2. Volume:
Find two ways:
A. Regular object, use l x w x h.
B. Irregular object, use displacement.
Displacement:

ending volume-starting volume= volume of object.

Pre Lab Questions:

1) Three significant figures
2) 1.52 g/mL
3) 13.24%

Homework:
1. Complete Web Assigns
2. Read Beverage Density labs
